Richard March
First time he saw her, she’s in red and black
And all the people around her taking second looks back
He was workin’ hard in his uniform
He was big and strong, his smile was warm
She’d catch his eye, then look away
While he thought hard on the right words to say
Keeping his guard up, biding his time
Till one day, he looked up She’s standing in line
Year had just turned a few days before
So he asked her what she did, to keep her in the store
But the people behind her hoped it wouldn’t last
So she smiled and turned away, her heart beating fast
This was it, wouldn’t get another shot
So he followed her out into the parking lot
Walking up slowly, biding his time
Till smiling, they looked up
And they knew it was right
That was years ago Or was it just yesterday
We held each other’s hands Hoping that words could say
How much we wanted love Dreaming we’d find a way
That was so long ago Or was it today
Parents knew it before they did Love like this just can’t be hid
Mother said, “Baby, my feeling’s good”
And her sisters agreed, and hoped she would
And he asked his father And father said,
“Son, I feel it in my bones, you’ll marry this one”
That was years ago Or was it just yesterday
We held each other’s arms Knowing that words would say
How much we trusted love Knowing we’d find a way
That was so long ago Or was it today. |
