Silence

There’s a silence on the bus...
A silence on the train...
In the supermarket...
In the check-out lane
There’s a silence at the bank...
and in the waiting room
Someone break the silence...
Lift the cloudy gloom
Did the city get your tongue
Are you ‘fraid and on the run
From yourself and from your shadow.
From the closets from your past
Is the day you’re walking through, a storm you hope will pass
Your tired eyes are screaming I would tell you if you asked
Thank God for little children Who in places such as these...
Aren’t afraid to laugh and giggle Introduce themselves with ease
How much friendlier a city, when we climb upon a bus...
There is laughter and discussion, there is talk and there is us
There’s a silence on the street and on the underground
In the elevator, no one speaks a sound
Do you think you might be judged Will you be mis-understood
There’s a secret in the silence, and a secret’s never good
Thank God for screaming babies Who in places such as these
Have no shame to keep them fearful Have no ego that concedes
How much friendlier a city, when we climb upon a bus...
There is laughter and discussion There is talk and there is us
There’s a silence that settles on me, when I am weary of what is to be.
Only way to release from the snare...
Break the silence and show... You care
Some say silence is better than lies,
Silence is surely the loudest of cries
Best be silent when lending an ear
‘Cause the voice of the Spirit is quiet like wind
To hear it you must find the silence within
Thank God for all you people
Who in places such as these
Hold your hand out to be helpful
Give yourself to those in need
How much friendlier a city... When we climb upon a bus...
There is laughter and discussion... There is Love... There is us. |
