On
a Night Like This

On a night like this, Mary took her T.V. set,
n’ threw it from the third floor fire escape
She dug down deep in her closet mess,
till she found some brushes and her paints
Kieron jumped and swore, spillin’ papers everywhere,
the crash and flash had took him by surprise
He grabbed his coat and some notes he wrote,
figured he could clear his head outside
Charlie watched the scene leanin’ on the rooftop ledge,
the rain was late & the winds were strangely calm
So he searched the sky for a star in falling flight,
and hit rewind to find his favorite song
On a night like this you could meet Juliet,
so many people on the streets
It’s never warm here this time of year,
so everybody’s out, lookin’ sweet
On a night like this, you could meet Romeo,
starin’ ‘cross the room at some small club
On a night like this, you could lose everything;
and on a night like this, you could fall in love
Kieron drew his curtains, steppin’ out on center stage,
all done up and down in city lights
Locked the door of his basement floor,
an understudy’s chance at opening night
Mary watched him leave, opening her window wide,
n’ framed a silhouette in evening sky
Started hummin’ as her pencil sketched,
bringing out the shadows and the light
Mary found herself inspired, she painted close till morn
Half asleep when it all got deep n’ it felt like being born
Kieron wrote a few more words to the song stuck in his head
Got home, put his guitar on, and fell asleep in bed
Charlie searched for hours, finally found his falling light
Watched it burn a trail in midnight sky
He clenched his fists and he made his only wish
“Send someone to keep me warm tonight!”
On a night like this, you could meet Juliet, starin’
‘cross the room at some small club
On a night like this, you could lose everything;
and on a night like this, you could fall in love. |
