Lying in the Backyard-©1994 Richard March

Lying in the backyard, with my eyes turned toward the sky
In the clouds I see my dreams, floating slowly, passing by
Mother calls... I’m not listening... Too many things going on
Young mind is a windmill in the storm of life’s newness

To stay young, is to realize... that we control the storm
Not the years that pass us by
‘Nother cloud drifts slowly by...

This one... I see my God
Live your life, live your life they say, based on truth and love
Fit the glove society offers and you’ll wear it till you die

Use your heart to create wings... and away from it you’ll fly
Stay away from false dreams, run away from false schemes
That promise peace of mind

For a cross that’s made of Gold, could never save, but quickly blinds
It’s not the house you pray in boy... but what you feel inside

And if your altar shimmers, True belief has surely died
Salvation isn’t paid for... It comes from inside

Do not wait to live tomorrow
Or all your life it will be yesterday's

And when you find yourself in sorrow
Run from pity, chasing Love as your guide

Parents raised with a Christian God
Their religion it stands firm
I never really cared what it meant...
Had no want to learn

Sit still! Pay attention boy and listen to that man
When it’s time to sing son, you will
Stand upon command

Now my life is my religion...
And true love is my God And my church...
My church are the friends who surround me now.
