Levee Road
©2006 Richard March

Windy morning and the storm has broke
River's rushing but the skies are finally blue.
I'm walking on a levee road
Fields are flooded and I'm thinking about you

And I.
I was just learning to crawl
Frozen from the fear I might fall
Hiding, 'hind a make believe wall

And You.
You were always taking my hand
You were always saying
"We can if we hold on, together we could sing a song."

Drawing doodles with a drying pen
Scratching sketches a' half a' what could be
Then you came on with a rainbow set
Said together we could paint a masterpiece

And You.
You were ready for the long ride
Standing with your arms open wide
"Honey won't you stay by my side?"

And I.
I'm wondering and walking alone
Wishing for a place to call home
But no one's there, so I'll say another prayer.

Here and now
I make this vow
The gift you gave to me
Was not in vain
Through all this rain
I found the sun you see

Now you're walking with another name
I'm praying every day your dreams come true
Me, I found that old rainbow set
Started shading in the sketches that I drew

And We.
Like the waters in the river that runs
Say goodbye to yesterday's sun
Rollin' to whatever may come

And You.
You'll always be a light in my sky
When I get to wonder
How I made it through
Honey I'll remember you
