Just Another Highway

I remember how you looked when you were just a little girl
Searching for a place to put your feet out in the world
You grew up with the summer sunlight melting on your face
Found a boy whose pretty songs filled your empty spaces
You never knew your eyes could stray
Just another highway

With books of dust and poetry and what you thought was right
You loved that boy with all your heart but you tired of the fight
Every day another round runnin' out of time
Packed your dreams and sailed away, searching for a sign
The promise of the getaway
Just another highway

Just another highway, come winding through the night
Just another silhouette go fading in the twilight at the end of another day
Just another highway

You had your fill of innocence and you tore it all apart
Fell in love with beauty and she nearly broke your heart
Somewhere in the wilderness your passion had a play
He became a memory you tried to wash away
Coming down like falling rain
Just another highway

Just another highway, come winding through the night
Just another silhouette go fading in the twilight at the end of another day
Just another highway

Now it's ten years later and there's age behind your eyes
The world just has a way of making off with your surprise
All that you were seeking is still out there in the sun
Love may be the answer, though it's not the only one
I hope you might find it someday
Just another highway

Just another highway, come winding through the night
Just another silhouette go fading in the twilight
At the end of another day, at the end of another day
Just another highway
